Eagle, Leslie George
Leslie George Eagle, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Cape Girardeau, to Leo James and Myrtle Eva Harris Eagle. He attended St. Mary's Grade School and St. Mary's High School and was a graduate of Central High School. He and Esther Dorothy "Doris" Fornkohl were married Oct. 24, 1945, in Cape Girardeau. She died Aug. 2, 1998.
Eagle was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from Aug. 28, 1940, to Aug. 27, 1946.
He was a member of VFW Post 3838, American Legion Post 63 and Cpl. Mason O. Yarbrough Detachment 1081 Marine Corps League.
Eagle started as a traveling salesman and later was a sales agent for Standard Oil. He became a Standard Oil jobber for the Cape Girardeau and Scott County area. In April 1976 he started his own business and began operating as Eagle Oil Co., between Cape Girardeau and Jackson. He retired Nov. 29, 1982.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Eagles Aerie 3775 and Elks Lodge 639.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. Eagle of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters, Mary (Mark) Schultz II of Cape Girardeau, Doris Ann (Simon) Irvin of Greenwood, Mo.; three great-grandsons, Mark Allan Schultz III, Maxwell Joseph Schultz, and Oliver Simon Irvin; and a brother, Jim Eagle of Prescott, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel, with parish prayers at 7.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating.
Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with full military honors by Missouri Honors Team and Cpl. Mason O. Yarbrough Detachment 1081 Marine Corps League.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Cathedral Building Fund.
