Engert, Larry Ernst "Foxy"

Larry E. "Foxy" Engert, 64, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Frohna, Mo., passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 19, 1949, in Wittenberg, Mo., son of Elmer Otto and Marjella Martha Wunderlich Engert.

Larry graduated from Perryville High School in 1967.

He served during the Vietnam War from March 26, 1969, until being honorably discharged Jan. 4, 1971.

Larry worked at East Perry Lumber and Plaza Tire in Cape Girardeau. He lived in California from 1991 to 2008 and drove a cement truck, retiring due to declining health. He enjoyed league bowling, baseball and softball. Larry was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Sara (Ray) Thacker of Scott City and Emily Engert (Rodney Chidester) of Benton, Mo.; two sisters, Wanda Choate of Burfordville and Betty DeRousse of St. Mary, Mo.; six grandchildren, Kolby, Devon, and Kinadie Thacker, Kodi, Ethan and Chloe Chidester; three nieces; and two nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Jonathan Stites officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Cemetery with full military honors.

McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
