Esicar, Edgar A. "Edro", Jr.

Edgar A. "Edro" Esicar Jr., 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born April 11, 1926, in St. Louis, to Edgar A. and Bessie R. Sherman Esicar. He and his dearest friend, Virginia "Dolly" Schlue, were companions 62 years.

Edro was a Merchant Marine in World War II and served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was awarded three Bronze Service Stars.

He owned and operated Esicar's Old Hickory Smoke House with his father, brother and nephew from 1952 to 1991. He was past exalted ruler of the Elks from 1967 to 1968, and a life member of VFW Post 3838. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of Kimbeland Country Club where he recorded a double-eagle before the renovations.

Survivors include a nephew, Blake Esicar (Janet); a niece, Janice Halter; a sister-in-law, Georgia Schatte-Esicar; friend, Virginia "Dolly" Schlue, all of Cape Girardeau; a great-nephew, Mike Larkin (Cindy) of Ironton, Mo.; and a great-niece, Jessica Halter Powell (Jim), of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Esicar.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to service time Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with Chaplain Steve Francis officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
