Friese, Virgil H.


SEDGEWICKVILLE, Mo. -- Virgil H. Friese, 90, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, April 11, 2005, at Oak Tree Villa Nursing Center.

He was born March 1, 1915, near Sedgewickville, son of Ira M. and Ella Statler Friese. His father passed away when Virgil was 14.

Virgil attended school in Sedgewickville and learned to farm at an early age. He continued farming many years and made several trips to Montana where he would work on a ranch until it was time to return to Missouri for another crop year.

He had lived in Jefferson City the past three years to be near his brother and family following declining health.

He was well liked in his community and has many friends in the area.

Virgil was an avid reader until two years ago when he completely lost his eyesight. He had a wide range of interests and was well informed on farming operations, farm machinery and inventions to make the job easier.

Survivors include a brother, Howard Friese and wife Lucille of Jefferson City; and a nephew, James Friese of Davenport, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sargents Chapel Church near Sedgewickville, with the Rev. Peter Rupprecht of St. Mark Lutheran Church officiating.

Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Friese donated his body to the University of Missouri Anatomical Board for educational and scientific research.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Sargents Chapel Church or Sargents Chapel Church Cemetery.
