Marie Phillips Fulton, 98, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 23 in New Canaan, Conn. where she had lived since 1957. The cause was pneumonia. 

She was born in Perryville on Oct. 12, 1916 to Edith (Difani) Phillips and Thomas Logan Phillips. She graduated from Perry County High School and received a degree from Font Bonne College in St. Louis. She was married to Tony Estel Fulton, a son of Presentia and John Fulton, also of Perryville.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Antonia Walker of Waterford Va.; granddaughters, Alexandra Walker of Washington, DC; and Aubrey Walker of Richmond, Va.; grandson, Brian Fulton of Redding, Conn.; and five great-grandchildren, Abigail, Logan and Mark Fulton, and Soren.

Tony was was an executive vice-president for Standard Brands which later became Kraft Foods. They moved from Perryville to St. Louis, then  to Kansas City, New York and finally to New Canaan where they settled in 1959. Both Marie and Tony were active in New Canaan, serving on the board of several arts and other civic organizations. Marie was a member of the New Canaan sewing group, and had been a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Their son, Gerald, who lived in Aspen, Colo. died in 1985 and Marie’s brother, Thomas Phillips of St. Louis also passed away. Marie’s husband Tony passed away in 1989. He was preceded in death by his sister, Zella Johnson, Tivis Fulton and Kelly Fulton.

A Memorial Mass was held in New Canaan, Conn. on March 28. 

A graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Perryville on Monday, June 1 at 12 Noon with Rev. Milton Ryan C.M. officiating.
