Gayman, Jacob M.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Jacob M. Gayman, 88, of 5187 Lemar Road, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at his home.

Born Nov. 19, 1907, in Peters Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Tobias S. and Lydia A. Martin Gayman.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Niswander Gayman, in 1967; by his second wife, Ruth Statler Gayman, in 1974; and by his third wife, Elizabeth Brechbill Gayman, in 1979.

He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was known for his scripture verse woodcarving.

He was a member of the Old Order River Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Rhoda Negley Gayman; one daughter, Thelma M. McLucas of Greencastle, Pa.; three sons, Donald D. Gayman of Morton, Wash., Marlin E. Gayman of Chambersburg, Pa., and Lee E. Gayman of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; one stepson, Owen Statler of Dallastown, Pa.; one sister, Naomi Heckman of St. Thomas, Pa.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Upton Church of the Brethren, near Upton, Pa. Minister Kenneth Frey, Minister Carl Meyers and Minister Kenneth Meyers will officiate. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery, near Welsh Run, Pa.

The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
