Gholson, Roy W.

Roy W. Gholson, 78, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009, on the family farm.

He was born March 7, 1931, near Jackson, son of Webster Bryan and Tincy Belle Jenkins Gholson. He and Evelyn E. Aufdenberg were married April 27, 1958. She survives.

Roy was baptized March 30, 1945, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Chicago, and was confirmed July 20, 1958, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tilsit. He was a 1949 graduate of Jackson High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from Oct. 2, 1951, to Oct. 1, 1955.

Roy was a lifelong farmer, and served as a substitute bus driver for the Jackson School District during the 1960s and also drove for Immaculate Conception Catholic School in the 1980s.

Loving survivors include his wife of 51 years; four sons, Randy (Dorothy) Gholson, Gary (Barbara) Gholson, Bill Gholson and Jeffery Gholson, all of Jackson; six grandchildren, Paul, Joshua, and Tyler Gholson, Greg, David and Sara Gholson; a sister, Mary Belle Mackey of Jackson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Terry Gholson.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and from 9:30 a.m. to service time Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Mark Boetcher officiating. Interment will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Tilsit, with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Cemetery in Tilsit.
