Goodson, Marie (nee Clark)

Marie Goodson, 92, of Stuttgart, Ark., formerly of Carbondale, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Crestpark Retirement Center in Stuttgart.

She was born May 28, 1921, in Nashville, Tenn., to Robert E. and Noni Wright Clark. She and John William Goodson were married June 20, 1942, in Cape Girardeau. They had been married 25 years when he passed away Aug. 17, 1967.

Marie was raised near Millersville, and was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge. Upon his return from World War II, she and her husband moved to Union County, Ill., where the family farmed until the children graduated from high school.

In 1966, Mr. and Mrs. Goodson moved to Carbondale, where Marie commenced a career in the Printing and Duplicating Department at Southern Illinois University. She retired from SIU after 25 years of service. She was a longtime member of Lakeland Baptist Church in Carbondale and was currently a member of First Baptist Church in Stuttgart.

Loving survivors include three children, John E. (Janelle) Goodson of Cabot, Ark., Michael J. (Kathryn) Goodson of Maumelle, Ark., and Pamela (the late Tommy) Beard of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jason Goodson of New Berlin, Ill., Jeffrey Brandt of West Palm Beach and David Brandt of St. Augustine, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, David Brandt Jr. of Crofton, Md., and Alli Goodson of Cabot.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Henley Clark, George Clark and Ruth Roberts.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Larry Lefler of Stuttgart officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
