Grebe, Milton A.

Milton A. Grebe, 75, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 12, 1929, at Whitewater, son of Albert and Alma Schwab Grebe. He and Marilyn "Joann" Birk were married Feb. 15, 1953, in Jackson.

Milton was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1948, and had been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1953.

He worked at Schaper's IGA Foodliner from 1951 to 1984, being store manager and part owner from 1968 to 1976, and co-owner from 1976 to 1984. He was co-owner of Strack Real Estate from 1984 to 1991, and worked for Heartland Realty from 1991 until his retirement in 1997.

He was councilman for Ward 3 from 1972 to 1976, served on the library board, and was named Jaycee Boss of the Year in 1976. Milton was a former president and had been a member of Jackson Optimist Club from 1968 to 1994. He was a former member of Jackson Chamber of Commerce, Jackson Retail Merchants, and former member of St. Paul Men's Club, serving as president for a year. He served on various church boards including Board of Elders, School Board, Finance Board, and was vice president of the congregation.

Loving survivors include his wife of 52 years; and daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Tim Werner of Jackson; a son, Mike Grebe of Jackson; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Linda Grebe of Herculaneum, Mo.; three grandchildren, Amy Bollinger of Benton, Mo., Angela Comegys of St. Louis, Derek Werner of Jackson; four great-grandchildren, Megan Wheeler, Justin, Allison and Julia Comegys.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Saxony Lutheran High School, or the American Heart Association.
