Grojean, Meyer, L.
Meyer L. Grojean, 92, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015, at Brookdale Senior Living in Overland Park.
He was born Aug. 14, 1922, to Gregory and Josephine Meyer Grojean on the farm near Dutchtown, which has been in his mother's family since 1876. He was the oldest of four sons.
Meyer graduated from the former College High School in Cape Girardeau, and Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri.
He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, earning three Bronze Stars for his service as a radio technician in the New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon campaigns.
Following the war, Meyer met his future wife, Aline A. McFerron of Jackson. They were married April 28, 1946, and had a son, Timothy Meyer. Aline passed away March 9, 2004.
In 1949, the young couple left Southeast Missouri when Meyer joined AT&T in St. Louis in the Shrewsbury office. He remained in company management the remainder of his professional career, working in AT&T offices in Kansas City; White Plains, New York; and Minneapolis. Following retirement in 1988 he and Aline moved to Sarasota, Florida.
Meyer was a former member of St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, and most recently the Church of the Nativity in Leawood, Kansas.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, David and Shirley Grojean of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Jane Grojean of Dutchtown; a daughter-in-law, Renee Grojean of Leawood; nephews Joe (Sasha) Grojean of Dutchtown, Greg (Margaret) Grojean of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Mike (Donna) Grojean of Colorado Springs, Colorado, David Joseph (Carol) Grojean of Mercer Island, Washington; three great-nephews; five great-nieces; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Aline; son, Timothy; and brothers, Joseph and Gerald.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time at Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Allen Saunders officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with full military honors.
Memorials may be made to Boys Town or to St. Mary Cathedral.
