Hahs, Delbert Leon

Delbert Leon Hahs, 86, of Daisy passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Daisy, son of Bert Alexander and Bessie Jane Bollinger Hahs. He and Betty L. Fronabarger were married April 29, 1945.

Hahs graduated from Oak Ridge High School and served in the U.S. Army in Korea during World War II. He farmed in Daisy all his life, raising livestock and crops. He was a member of New Salem Methodist Church in Daisy where he served as superintendent of the Sunday schools and was a former trustee on the cemetery board. He was a former member and treasurer of the Oak Ridge School Board; a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post No. 158 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Jackson; a 64-year member and past Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge No. 441 AF&AM of Jackson; and a member of the Cape County Coon Hunters Association.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years Betty Hahs of Daisy; two sons, Darrell (Janet) Hahs of Friedheim and Robert (Leota) Hahs of Oak Ridge; two daughters, Sharon Bogenpohl of Oak Ridge and Charlotte (Larry) Ludwig of Woodson, Ill.; three sisters, Dorenda Haupt of Blue Springs, Mo., Betty Friese and Mary Belle Rohde of Friedheim; nine grandchildren, David Bogenpohl, Terry (Erica) Bogenpohl, Sheri (Jody) Ponder, Rick Ludwig, Lori Eddings, Darren (Melanie) Hahs, Erin (Shawn) Roth, Burt Hahs, Linden (Matt) White; seven great-grandchildren, Devin and Reagan Ponder, Alexis and Ashlyn Eddings, Cohen and Avery Hahs and Paige Roth.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Ruch; and a son-in-law, Leonard Bogenpohl.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at New Salem United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Steven Koener will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials can be made to New Salem United Methodist Church or cemetery fund.
