Hahs, Eugene Ora "Jinks"

SEDGEWICKVILLE, Mo. -- Eugene "Jinks" Hahs, 83, of Sedgewickville died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Sedgewickville, son of Ora and Minnie Statler Hahs. He and Ruby Barks were married July 20, 1941, at Sedgewickville. She died Dec. 14, 1988.

Hahs was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. He was a farmer and owned and operated the former Hahs and Son Egg Farm. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sedgewickville, and Moonier-Reddick American Legion Post 133 in Perryville, Mo.

A staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, he served from Nov. 5, 1942, to Nov. 13, 1945.

Survivors include a son, Steve Hahs of Sedgewickville; a daughter, Gena Welker of Patton, Mo.; two brothers, Lindell Hahs of Sedgewickville, the Rev. Billy Hahs of Mount Vernon, Ill.; three sisters, Marie Statler of Cape Girardeau, Viola Twidwell of Farmington, Mo., Lewanna Weiss of Columbia, Mo.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, a brother and four sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jerry Statler officiating. A committal service will follow in Sedgewickville Community Cemetery, with full military honors. The Revs. Billy Hahs and James Hahs will officiate.
