Hahs, Hattie O. (nee Pfeiffer)

Hattie O. Hahs, 87, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Pocahontas, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 1, 1917, in Pocahontas, daughter of Alvin and Alvina Koenig Pfeiffer, being one of seven children. She married James H. Hahs June 18, 1937. He died in 1986.

While James was in the military, they lived in Savannah, Ga., and San Diego, Calif. After his discharge they moved to Pocahontas where they owned and operated the General Mercantile Store and the Propane Gas and Appliance Center from 1942 to 1960.

She later worked at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis from 1960 until her retirement in 1980. She then moved back to Pocahontas and operated the Country Store selling wood burning stoves and furnaces. For several years they spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Walker of St. Louis; a foster daughter, Norma Jean Jank of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Gusta Boren of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Saxony Lutheran High School, or Lutheran Family and Children's Services.
