Hahs, Hazel Marie (nee Lukefahr)
Hazel Marie Lukefahr Hahs, 91, formerly of Sedgewickville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home, where she lived the past month. Prior to residency at Jackson Manor, she lived five years at Capetown Independent and Assisted Living.
One of six children, Hazel was born June 3, 1924, in Perry County, Missouri, to Thomas Jefferson and Hattie Blaylock Lukefahr. She and Lindell E. “Lin” Hahs were married November 23, 1941, in Sedgewickville. They had two sons and had been married 63 years when Lin passed away November 27, 2004.
Hazel was raised in Sedgewickville and was a 1941 graduate of the former Sedgewickville High School. In 1978, she and Lin returned to Sedgewickville and became members of Sedgewickville United Methodist Church. Hazel worked several years from her home, selling Avon and Sarah Coventry jewelry. She was a former census worker and worked briefly as the church secretary. She was an avid quilter and crafter.
Loving survivors include her son, Jeff (Anita) Hahs of Oak Ridge; two grandsons, Adam (Cara) Hahs of Friedheim, and Austin (Elizabeth) Hahs of Oak Ridge; four great-grandchildren, Hayley, Cooper, and Sadie Hahs and Layla Hahs; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Billy G. (Elouise) Hahs of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, LaWanna (Dale) Weiss of Columbia, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. Hazel was anticipating the arrival of a fifth great-grandchild later this month.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Kirkley Alan Hahs on June 8, 1977; four brothers, Pervis, Everett, Leslie, and Tom Lukefahr; a sister, Ruby Bollinger; and her parents.
Visitation will be Friday, April 8, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m., at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson; and Saturday, April 9, 2016, from 9 a.m. to service time, at Sedgewickville United Methodist Church.
The funeral will be Saturday, April 9, at 11 a.m., at the church, with the Revs. Pam Ekey, Jerry Statler, and Billy G. Hahs officiating.
Burial will follow at Sedgewickville Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Sedgewickville United Methodist Church or the Masonic Home of Missouri.
