Hanschen, Edward H.

Ed H. Hanschen, 89, of Gordonville passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 6, 1915, in Gordonville, son of Martin P. and Clara Eggers Hanschen. He and Evelyn Hitt were married July 2, 1938, in Gordonville. She passed away Aug. 10, 1995.

Ed worked more than 50 years at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson.

He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville, where he was active in many church functions and formerly served as an elder. He especially enjoyed bowling in the church league and fishing.

Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Judy Hanschen of Cape Girardeau; a grandson, Geoffery Hanschen of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter, Jillian Hanschen of Cape Girardeau; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sarah and Ben Borchelt of Cape Girardeau, Minnie Whitler of Gordonville, and Maggie and John Williams of Gordonville.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a brother-in-law, Louis Whitler.

Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and Wednesday after 9:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund.
