Hartwig, Velma Juanita (nee Dockins)
Velma Juanita Hartwig, 92, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 29, 1920, in Scopus, MO, daughter of Ira S. and Lavada Killian Dockins. She and Clarence E. Hartwig were married in 1935 in Marble Hill. He passed away in 1971.
She had worked for the former International Shoe Factory in Advance, and was a nurse’s aid at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She enjoyed giving her hand made needle-point items as personal gifts, cooking, and flower gardening.
Loving survivors include; two sons, Mike (Ann) Hartwig of Ironton, MO, Steven (Debbie) Hartwig of Jackson; five grandchildren, Michelle (John) Wells of Bakersfield, CA, Taylor (Amber) Hartwig of Ironton, Shawn (Wendy) Francis of Kansas City, MO, Gabe Hartwig of St. Louis, MO, Josh Hartwig of Jackson; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 4-8 PM at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be Thursday, at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Chris Raegen, from Bread of Life Church in Jackson, officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to KHIS Christian radio station in Cape Girardeau or the church or charity of your choice.
