Hayden, Joseph Edward "Red"

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Joseph Edward "Red" Hayden, 98, of Perryville died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Independence Care Center.

He was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Perry County, son of Lon and Lunette Brewer Hayden. He and Helen L. Cissell were married Nov. 22, 1932, in Brewer, Mo. She preceded him in death April 8, 2002.

Mr. Hayden was a dairy farmer. He also had worked at International Shoe Co. and was a barber in the area many years. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus, and member of the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include four daughters, Marge (Chauncey) Carron of Perryville, Jerry (Don) Wingerter of Chester, Ill., Barbara LeCompte of St. Louis, Deloris Monier of Perryville; a son, Norman (Elaine) Hayden of Cape Girardeau; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Hayden of Cape Girardeau; 30 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Bertrand Hayden of Farmington, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Elinor Gremminger and Mary Teresa Gremminger of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Kenneth Hayden; four brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and 6:30 to 9:50 a.m. Tuesday at Miller Family Funeral Home. The parish wake with the Knights of Columbus will be at 7 p.m. Monday. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Endowment Fund.
