Healy, Rosemary T. (nee Unverferth)

Rosemary Healy, 89, of Brewer, passed away December 16, 2013 at the home of her daughter Sue Oster in Brewer. She lived for 43 years in Oceanside, California before relocating to Brewer in 2010. She was born on December 20, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of Edwin and Mary M. (Schumer) Unverferth. She and Barney Loos were married in 1945 and were blessed with four children. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1951. As a young widow, she and Alvah T. Healy were married on December 7, 1952 and were blessed with five children. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2010.

Rosemary was a homemaker with a gentle and kind demeanor who nurtured and supported her thirty-six children and grandchildren. She was the ultimate host for every holiday gathering. She was a great cook, inspiring delight with her early morning pancakes, fried chicken with milk gravy, and lemon cake. She lived all aspects of her life as a devout Christian. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville and St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in California.

Loving survivors include six children, Linda Holman and Sue (Roger) Oster (delete the word “all”)of Brewer; Joan (Steve) Greene and Patrick (Lily) Healy of Oceanside, California; Pauline (Phillip) Romero of Skyforest, California; and Karen (Fred) Brutschy of Perryville; fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters, Joe Unverferth of Des Moines, Iowa; Jack Unverferth of Yuma, Arizona; Edwin Unverferth of Red Bud, Illinois; Jim (Sandy) Unverferth of Lincoln, Nebraska; Joan Welker and Mary Ann (Paul) Becker of Perryville; and Regina Unverferth of Cape Girardeau; and many nieces and nephews.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, sons Tom Loos in 1968 and David Healy in 1966; daughter, Mary (Loos) Christensen in 2006; two sisters, Ruth Baer and Alma Schumer; and two brothers, Thomas “Pete” Unverferth and “Sonny” Unverferth.

Visitation for Rosemary will be held at Young & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, December 27 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm with a Catholic Wake at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 6:30 – 10:30 am with rosary at 9:00 am. Funeral Mass is scheduled at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Perryville on Saturday, December 28 at 11:00 am with Rev. Milton Ryan CM officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
