Heisserer, Alta Irene (nee James)

KELSO, Mo. -- Alta Irene Heisserer, 79, of Kelso passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010, at her home of more than 50 years.

She was born March 28, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, to John H. and Ada Jones James. She and Bernard Heisserer were married Dec. 29, 1951.

Loving survivors include her husband, Bernard Heisserer; a son, John (Angel) Heisserer of Scott City; three daughters, Debra (Steve) Hamil of Manhattan, Kan., Paula (Donnie) Braeuner of Scott City, Melissa Bradshaw of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son and a grandson.

Alta was a loving wife, mom and grandma. She was usually found at the farm cooking for her family, tending to her garden, fishing or sitting down to a good crossword puzzle. Occasionally she was found schooling her grandchildren in a game of rummy. No one could beat grandma. She was always willing to take care of the sick or abandoned animals found on the farm. She was a true caregiver. Lately she found joy sitting in front of her gorgeous goldfish pond.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso. Parish prayer service will be at 6:30, followed by Knights of Columbus service.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
