Heitman, Arthur Lynn

Arthur Lynn Heitman, 88, of Jackson passed away Monday, April 16, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Patton, MO., son of Arthur A. and Gertrude Slover Heitman. He and Rosalie Kurre were married Jan. 25, 1942, in Opelika, Ala. She passed away Oct. 21, 2001.

Arthur was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Normandy, Sicily, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes, receiving six Bronze Stars.

He worked as a line foreman for Black River Electric Coop for over 30 years.

The Heitmans lived in Marble Hill, Ironton, Fredericktown, Mo., and moved to Jackson in 1984.

Arthur was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 and VFW Post 10495 in Jackson.

Loving survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Bob Davis of Jackson; a brother, Eugene Heitman of Webster Groves, Mo.; a sister, Valetta Robinson of Patton; a brother-in-law, E.P. "Pug" (Leona) Kurre of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Sophia Brandes and Sally Powell of Jackson.

Also surviving are five nieces, Kathy Berkbigler of Patton, Norma Richter Wilkening of Columbia, Mo., Judy Kurre Hudgins of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Dina Kurre Strickert of Cape Girardeau, Gina Kurre Rogers of St. Louis; four nephews, Richard Robinson of Webster Groves, Bill Heitman, Rhoads Heitman and Gene Richter of St. Louis; many loving great-nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to Emanuel United Church of Christ, or Patton Presbyterian Church.
