Hill, Marvin Henry

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Marvin Henry Hill, 93, of Marble Hill passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Woodland Hills Nursing Home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Grassy, Mo., son of James and Rosa Moore Hill.

Marvin joined the U.S. Army in May 1941 and served through May 1945. He served in the 20th Infantry Regiment of the 6th Infantry Division, which landed on the island of New Guinea in June 1944. His unit was advancing against Japanese units in the area of Coral Rock Hill when he was wounded. Some 45 years later, in May 1989, he received a Purple Heart.

He was a carpenter and a member and past commander of VFW Post 5900.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Huff officiating. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 5900.
