Hills, Marjorie (nee Jonker)
Marjorie Jonker Hills went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel.The family will greet friends on Saturday from 11:30 a.m until the service time.
Marjorie was born on May 30, 1919, in the province of Groningen, The Netherlands. She immigrated to America in 1927 with her parents, Thomas and Anna Jonker, and her four brothers. They settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Marjorie graduated from Calvin College and taught junior high English. Marjorie married Edward F. Hills of Oak Park, Illinois in October of 1949. They came to Des Moines in 1955 and had three daughters. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Reformed Church in Des Moines. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband and a great grandson. She is survived by her three daughters, Mary (John) Mueller of St. Louis, Anne (Jack) Brown of Ankeny, and Margie (Dan) Kennedy of Des Moines. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Marjorie loved being a homemaker and found great joy in taking care of her family. She was a woman of deep faith and will be remembered by her love for her Lord and her family. Memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Presbyterian Reformed Church.
