Hines, Dorothy V. "Dot" (nee Craft)

Dorothy V. "Dot" Hines, 88, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 6, 1926, in Wittenberg, Missouri, daughter of Moses and Louise Schmidt Craft. She and Carl Hines were married July 12, 1941. He passed away in December 1988.

Dorothy was a former member of New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas, and for some time had attended Wesley United Methodist Church at Fruitland. Living her whole life on a farm, Dorothy was a true "farm girl". Between the two of them, she and Carl raised just about everything they ate, and she enjoyed the work that went into gardening, canning and cooking.

Her whole world revolved around her grandchildren and family, and she looked forward to seeing everyone at the weekly Sunday dinners at Grandma's house. She loved her life and was continually thanking the Lord for her many blessings.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Ann (John) Quade of Jackson; three sisters, Mildred Amschler of Chester, Illinois, Lillian Huber and Irene Groenman of St. Louis; a daughter-in-law, Judy Hines of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Brad Hines, Leigh Ann (Hines) Green, David Hines, Megan (Quade) Berkbigler and Justin Quade; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Joe Hines in 1980 and Harold Hines in 1998; three brothers, Richard, Leonard and Raymond Craft; and a sister, Ruby Knox.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. William "Bill" Minor officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
