Illers, Dorothy Cloe (nee Jenkins)

Dorothy Cloe Illers, 100, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born July 2, 1904, at Oak Ridge, daughter of George and Mayme Williams Jenkins.

She married Robert W. Illers in 1924; he died in 1975.

She was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School and Normal Teachers College. After graduation she taught in several one-room country schools and later at Puxico, Mo., schools. She was deputy assessor of Cape Girardeau County for more than 40 years.

Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, the John Guild Chapter NSDAR, American Legion Post 158 Auxiliary and the Thursday Literary Club.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and John Ellis of Jackson; five grandchildren, John and Diane Ellis of Batesville, Ark., Robert and Wendy Ellis of Drummonds, Tenn., Mark and Faye Bayless of Holly Springs, N.C., Michael and Cindi Bayless of Crossville, Tenn., Susan and Brian Underwood of Cambridge, Ill; five great-grandchildren, Robert John Ellis, Bennett Underwood, Michael Bayless, Cody Bayless and Marissa Underwood; four great-stepgrandchildren; and five great-great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Adelle Rose Illers Bayless; three brothers, Hart, Jack and Jimmy; five sisters Evelyn, Peg, Maxine, Pap and Billie.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carter Frey officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from noon until the time of the service.

Memorials may be made to Polycystic Kidney Disease.
