Jenkins, Virgie (nee Myers)

Virgie M. Jenkins, 92, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1918, in Old Appleton, Mo., daughter of Marion and Addie Dickman Myers.

Virgie was an accomplished manicurist in the Forest Park area of St. Louis when she met Nelson "Al" Jenkins. They were married Sept. 25, 1946, at Zion Methodist Church in Old Appleton.

She and Al owned and operated the former Jenkins Engineering and Sales Inc. in Kansas City, supplying customized airplane controls, components and specialized parts 40 years. They enjoyed flying to various states and countries for business and pleasure. Although Virgie and Nelson had lived away from the area for some time, she was still a member of Zion Methodist Church.

Loving survivors include her husband, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul "Slim" Myers, Edgar "Beck" Myers, Willard "Bill" Myers and Henry Myers; three sisters, Viola Habeck, Ethel Kurre and Mildred Seabaugh.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to service time Monday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James N. Brice Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Old Appleton Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or Alzheimer's Association.
