Johnson, Lillian Doris (nee Statler)

Lillian D. Johnson, 82, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009, after a brief illness.

She was born Nov. 30, 1926, in Millersville, the only child of Truman and Eula Statler. She and Dr. Earl W. Johnson were married in 1948 and celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Lillian graduated from Jackson High School, William Woods College and received a degree from Southeast Missouri State College before teaching a year of English in Caruthersville, Mo.

She was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, participating in the prayer group, Chancel Choir and Sunday school. For most of her life she was a homemaker in the best sense of the word as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lillian was also an active member of PEO in Chapters JN and LY. She enjoyed all board games and jigsaw puzzles with her grandchildren, reading, playing tennis, watching Cardinal baseball and spending time with her family. Her positive outlook on life was obvious to all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Earl W. Johnson of Cape Girardeau; four sons, Laurence A. (Mary) Johnson of Norman, Okla., Randall S. (Rita) Johnson of Wildwood, Mo., E. Wayne (Rhonda) Johnson of Jackson, Bryan D. (Vivian) Johnson of Eureka, Mo.; three daughters, Lea Ellen (Bruce) Renfro of Fairview, Texas, Beth K. (Daryl) Thompson of Bismarck, N.D., Christine M. "Tina" Johnson of Cape Girardeau; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Centenary Church, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church.
