Kamp, Albert William, Jr.

Albert W. Kamp, Jr., 88, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born January 26, 1925, in Burfordville, son of Albert W. Kamp, Sr. and Nora Bodenstein Kamp. He and Dena Siebert were married April 3, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Albert was a 1944 graduate of Jackson High School. He was inducted into the United States Army Air Force on February 16, 1945 and was honorably discharged August 23, 1946. He was baptized March 8, 1925 and confirmed April 10, 1938 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit, where he served as Congregational President, Elder, and on various church committees. He transferred his membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson in 1996, where he was a special collector. Albert was a farmer all of his life and lived on the family farm until he was admitted to the nursing home in 2010. He was a charter member and former President of Co-op Service Center in Jackson and a member of the Farm Bureau. He was instrumental in establishing the Jackson High School FFA program, to which he and his son, Mark, were the first father/son combination to serve as presidents.

Loving survivors include his wife of 64 years; two sons, Gary (Gail) Kamp of Burfordville, and Mark Kamp of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter, Joyce (Rev. Alan) Wollenburg of Sikeston; four grandchildren, Christopher and Cassie Kamp of Burfordville, Stephanie Wollenburg of New York City, NY, and John Wollenburg of Sikeston; a brother, Elmer (Martha) Kamp of Jackson; and two sisters-in-law, Jessie Kamp and Darlene Kamp of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Charlie Kamp and a sister, Elsie Shafer.

Friends may call Friday, February 1, 2013 from 3:30 – 8:00 PM at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 9:30 AM until service time at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. An American Legion Service will be held Friday at 7:30 PM.

The funeral service will be Saturday, at 10:30 AM, at the church with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating.

Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or charity of your choice.
