UNIONTOWN, Mo. -- Elmer Walter Kasten, 98, of Kennewick, Wash., passed away peacefully from this earth Thursday, July 21, 2011. A life well served. He was born Nov. 6, 1912, in Uniontown, son of Arthur C. and Agnes Telle Kasten. He spent his formative years working the family farm with his siblings in Perry County...

A funeral will be held Monday, August 8th, 2011 for 98-year-old Elmer Walter Kasten of Kennewick, Washington who died Sunday, July 21st.

He was born November 6, 1912 in Uniontown, son of Arthur C. and Agnes (Telle) Kasten who both preceded him in death.

He married Ruby Jane Blair in January, 1941. She preceded him in death in 1986.

He married Lillian (Popp) Telle. She preceded him in death in September 1999.

He is survived by two daughters: Judy Campilongo and Bonnie Boehnke; two sons-in-law Gary Boehnke and Gary Campilongo; five grandsons and their wives: David and Linda Cahoon, Michael and Taylor Boehnke, Daryl and Michelle Cahoon, Matthew and Dawn Boehnke and William and Michele Boehnke; great-grandchildren: Ryland, Matthew Jr., Emery, Brandon, Jordan, Christina, Mallory, Torianne, Skyler, Savannah, Gabriella, Brianna and Madison; numerous nephews and nieces, their children and loyal friends.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson: Darren Cahoon; brothers: Herbert, Theophil (Ted), Irwin, Walter and a sister Wilma Schuessler and their respective spouses.

He spent his formative years working the family farm with his siblings in Perry County.

In 1947 he, his wife and young daughters moved to Southern California to start a new career in the dairy business. Success followed and in 1962, Elmer and Ruby once again redefined their lives by becoming motel owners and managers. Elmer retired in the late 70’s and became a volunteer driver for the newly created RSVP program in Northern California.

He returned to Perryville after marrying his second wife.

His last 11 years have been spent with daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Gary Boehnke in Kennewick, Washington.

A quiet soul and special life, Elmer will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his strong Lutheran faith and his passion for his beloved baseball.

Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Sunday, August 7 and 6:30-8:30 a.m. Monday, August 8 at Young & Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.

A funeral for 98-year-old Elmer Walter Kasten of Kennewick, Washington, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 8th at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville. The Rev. Matthew Marks will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are sent to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2505 West 27th Avenue, Kennewick, WA or to Hospice at the Chaplaincy, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336.
