Kasten, Eugene William

Eugene W. Kasten, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, June 1, 2015, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Nov. 15, 1924, at Pocahontas to Willie T. and Mary Morton Kasten.

He and Evelyn Rauh were married May 9, 1948.

Eugene served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.

He was owner and operator of Kasten Grocery more than 20 years and later owned and operated Rental Land 49 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and was involved in many other areas.

Eugene was a lifetime member of VFW and Cape Girardeau Evening Optimists, a blood donor at Red Cross and a Saxony Lutheran High School supporter.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Kasten of Cape Girardeau; a son, Mark (Beverly) Kasten of Pocahontas; a daughter, Heidi Kasten of Shawnee, Kansas; two grandchildren, Amy (Gibbie) Kasten-Yates and Jennifer (Daniel) Hoskins; and three great-grandchildren, Blake Kasten and Hailey and Riley Yates.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Sample.

Visitation will be today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church, with Doug Breite officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park with full military rites.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Eugene and Evelyn Kasten Scholarship Fund at Saxony Lutheran High School, Trinity Lutheran Church or the National Kidney Foundation.
