Kiefer, Dwight David "Buddy"

COBDEN, Ill. -- Dwight D. "Buddy" Kiefer, 61, of Cobden died Tuesday, Jan 13, 2015, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Illinois.

He was born May 26, 1953, in Cape Girardeau, son of the late Troy S. Kiefer and survived by Mildred Glaub Kiefer of Perryville, Missouri. He married Karen Flamm on Feb. 5, 2005, in St. Joseph Church in Cobden. She survives in Cobden.

Dwight was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna, Illinois. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired on July 5, 2010, after 26 years of service at Procter & Gamble as a line technician. He loved woodworking, working in his shop, yard work and spending time with his grandchildren. Dwight enjoyed listening to music, watching football, pampering his beloved pets and, most of all, taking care of other people.

Other survivors include one son and one daughter, Robert J. Kiefer of Perryville and Carrie A. (Steven) Santel of Ellisville, Missouri; Karen's daughters, Sarah L. Garner and Emily L. Garner, both of Cobden; four brothers and two sisters, Michael (Wilma) Kiefer and Troy Joe (Anna) Kiefer, both of Perryville, Kenneth (Karen) Kiefer of Jackson, Louise Finger, Daniel (Darlene) Kiefer and Mary (Rick) Hoehn, all of Perryville; brother-in-law; Bill Fischer of Perryville; and two grandsons; William R. and Owen D. Santel.

He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Dwight Kiefer; two sisters; Juanita Kiefer and Kathy Fischer; and a brother-in-law, Roy Finger.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden, with rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will then be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.

Funeral Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military graveside honors provided by the Delta Team.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna.
