Kiefer, Lloyd J.

Perryville, Mo. -- Lloyd J. Kiefer, 91, of Perryville died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at his home.

He was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Perry County, Mo., son of Andrew and Albertine Feltz Kiefer. He and Doris Zoellner were married March 22, 1941. She died Jan. 30, 2001.

Kiefer owned and operated the Perry County Ambulance Service. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 133 and a past member of the Perryville Optimist Club.

Kiefer was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a medical technician. He served under Gen. George Patton in the invasion of North Africa in November 1942, followed by service in Italy, France and Germany. During his service he received President Unit Citations, five Gold Bars, seven Battle Stars and a Purple Heart.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Kiefer of St. Louis, Mo., Kenny Kiefer of Perryville, Mo.; three daughters, Susie Mueller of Chesterfield, Mo., Patty Bodling of Lee's Summit, Mo., Jane Frary of Sarasota, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, four brothers and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville, with parish prayers with the Knights of Columbus service at 7 p.m. and an American Legion service at 7:15 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, with graveside military honors by American Legion Post 133.
