Kinder, Howard Glen, Sr.
Howard Glen Kinder Sr., 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 5, 1924, in Cape Girardeau to Torrence and Minnie Luebbers Kinder, the youngest of nine children. He and Wava Jane Totten were married June 16, 1940, in St. Louis. She preceded him in death Sept. 18, 1990, after 50 years of marriage. He later married Betty Burger Beard on April 5, 1991, in Clearwater, Fla.
Glen was a lifelong member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He was a loyal member serving in many different positions throughout his lifetime. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. He was awarded three Bronze Stars. Glen was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, VFW Post 3838 and American Legion Post 63. Glen retired from the Missouri Utilities after 26 years of service. He also worked as a contractor and builder for many years.
Glen loved helping people. He loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him. Those that knew Glen, knew he never was settled in one place. He enjoyed moving quite often.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Kinder; two daughters, Janet (Paul) Bell of Millersville and Charlotte Sue (Max) Jauch of Cape Girardeau; a son, Howard Glen Kinder Jr. of Cape Girardeau; two stepsons, Richard (Kathy) Beard of Jackson, Timothy (Melanie) Beard of Cape Girardeau; five stepdaughters, Sande (Roy) Meyer of Cape Girardeau, Rhonda (William) Dorris of Shawneetown, Patricia (Mike) Fischer of Cape Girardeau, Cyndy (Terry) Meadows of Cape Girardeau, Jean (Steven) Statler of Fenton, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; and 29 great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Bill Burke and son-in-law Paul Bell officiating.
Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites by the Missouri Honors Team.
