King, Therman Lee, Rev.

DEXTER, Mo. -- The Rev. Therman Lee King, 81, of Dexter died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at his home.

King was born Aug. 4, 1924, at Swinton, Mo., son of Herman and Edna Proffer King. He and Norma Jean Cooper were married March 6, 1947, at Bloomfield, Mo.

King was a General Baptist minister for 47 years and served as pastor for the Faith General Baptist Church in Morehouse, Mo., for the past 20 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Marines on Okinawa and receiving a Purple Heart. He previously worked as a farmer, business owner and had been a member of the ASCS County Committee.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis King of Fisk, Mo., Randy Lee King of Park Hills, Mo.; nine daughters, Betty Jean Metcalf of Bloomfield, Bonnie Lockhart of Cape Girardeau, Cathy Jo O'Neal of Prairieville, La., Connie Hattaway of Alexandria, La., Rebecca Maddox of Clarkton, Mo., Rhonda Cooper of Springfield, Mo., Regina Mick, Robyn Berry and Tonya King, all of Dexter; three brothers, Blanton King and Nerman King, both of Bloomfield, Michael King of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three sisters, Oma Cagle of Advance, Mo., Wilda Mae Armes of Bloomfield, Velma Reinisch of Dexter; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Jerry Cooper will officiate, with burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery near Bloomfield with full military honors.
