Kirn, Melvin L., Sr.

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Melvin L. Kirn Sr., 73, of Perryville died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Perry County Nursing Home.

He was born July 19, 1930, in Perry County, son of George S. and Josephine Gebhardt Kirn.

Kirn was a farmer, and member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and American Legion Boosters.

Survivors include three sons, Melvin Kirn Jr. of Perryville, Daniel Kirn of Oklahoma City, Okla., Richard Kirn of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Joyce Jones of Flint, Mich., Brenda Barnett of Perryville; three sisters, Virginia Lappe of St. Louis, Alice Boxdorfer and Viola Gibbar of Perryville; two brothers, Sylvester and Joseph Kirn of Perryville; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons.

Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30 to 9:50 a.m. The parish wake will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. William Thess officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 for 73-year-old Melvin L. Kirn, Sr. who died Monday, Aug. 25 at Perry County Nursing Home.

He was born on July 19, 1930 in Perry County, the son of the late George s. and Josephine Gebhardt Kirn.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, and two daughters and one son-in-law: Melvin L. and Cindy Kirn Jr. of Perryville; Daniel and Connie Kirn of Oklahoma City; Richard Kirn of Mesa, Ariz.; Joyce Jones of Flint, Mich.; and Brenda and LeRoy Barnett Sr. of Perryville.

Three sisters and two brothers survive: Virginia Lappe of St. Louis; and Alice Boxdorfer, Viola Gibbar, Sylvester Kirn and Joseph Kirn, all of Perryville.

Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Two sons, Ronald and David, preceded him in death.

Mr. Kirn was a farmer and a member of American Legion Boosters.

Visitation will be from 4:00-9:00 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 27 at the Miller Family Funeral Home. Parish wake will at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 6:30-9:50 a.m.

Funeral Mass for Melvin L. Kirn, Sr. will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Cemetery in Perryville. Rev. William Thess will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Boniface cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to donor’s choice.
