Kirn, Milford Paul
Milford Paul Kirn, 84, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Friedheim, to Murphy L. and Corene E. Berkbigler Kirn. He and Mary Stevens were married June 2, 1956, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Milford was a 1949 graduate of Perryville High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving honorably from Jan. 20, 1953, to April 4, 1955, during the Korean War.
Milford was self-employed most of his life. During the 1960s and 1970s, he owned and operated Kirn Auto Service in Jackson; then in Southern California, he owned a small chain of auto parts stores. The past 25 years, he has been involved in real-estate investments and rental properties.
He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Bishop-Timon KC Council 6405 in Jackson where he was past faithful navigator of the 4th Degree. He was also an active member and past commander of Altenthal- Joerns American Legion Post 158 and its honor guard.
Milford and Mary traveled extensively. His favorite was traveling with his family on cruises and special vacations.
Loving survivors include his wife of nearly 59 years, Mary of Jackson; two children, Kimberley A. (Mike) Pohlman of Jackson and Paul H. Kirn (Kris Hartman) of Jackson; three grandchildren, Geoffrey Kinder (Amanda Morris) of San Francisco, Jessica (Mike) Sladek of Jackson and Matthew Kirn of Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Adriana and Keegan Sladek; and two sisters, Shelvy Ahrens of Friedheim and LaVerne (Leslie) Newell of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Nanney in 1993; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An American Legion service will be at 6 p.m. Immediately thereafter, Deacon Walter Biri will lead parish prayers followed by a K.C. Rosary.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, with celebrant the Rev. John Harth. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Immaculate Conception Building Fund.
