Klaus, Melvin R. "Sandy"

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Melvin R. "Sandy" Klaus, 83, of Perryville died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 29, 1921, at Friedheim, son of Clarence William and Bertha Moeller Klaus. He and LaVanche Simkins were married June 18, 1977.

Klaus was an insurance agent with AAL. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and its Men's Choir, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cathy Holmes of Las Vegas, Kendra Klaus of St. Louis; two stepsons, Wesley Robertson of Cape Girardeau, George Huse Jr. of Euless, Texas; a stepdaughter, Debra Brown of West Plains, Mo.; a sister, Alma MacClurg of Perryville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, five brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The wake will be at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Matthew Marks officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, with military graveside service by American Legion Post 133.

A funeral will be held Sunday, November 7th, 2004 for Melvin R. "Sandy" Klaus of Perryville, who died Thursday, November 4th at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville.

He was born August 29th, 1921 in Friedheim, the son of Clarence William and Bertha (Moeller) Klaus, who both preceded him in death.

He married LaVanche Sinkins on June 18th, 1977. She survives in Perryville.

Survivors also include: two daughters, Cathy Holmes of Las Vegas and Kendra Klaus of St. Louis; two stepsons, Wesley Robertson of Cape Girardeau and George V. Huse Jr. of Euless, Texas; a stepdaughter, Debra LaReeDe Brown of West Plains; three grandchildren, Travis Winkler of Denver, Colorado, and Jared and Kristen Hoffman of St. Louis.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kristal Hoffman; five brothers, Edgar, Arthur, Norbert, Bill and Oscar and one sister, Lydia.

He was member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Men's Choir, VFW, and American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Visitation will be 4-8:30 p.m. Saturday, November 5th and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, November 6th at the Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. A VFW wake will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday.

A funeral for 83-year-old Melvin R. "Sandy" Klaus of Perryville will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. Matthew Marks will officiate. A graveside military service will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 133.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
