Koeberl, Bertha Emma (nee Walther)

JACKSON, Mo. -- Bertha Emma Koeberl, 86, of Jackson passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and Wednesday after 9 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, Mo.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Revs. Fred Schmucker and Albert Nyland officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Bertha was born Jan. 11, 1916, at Jackson, daughter of Ernest and Anna Marie Dreyer Walther. She and Carl Herman Koeberl were married March 7, 1943.

Loving survivors include her husband; a son-in-law, Jerry M. Schreiner of Oak Ridge, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Koeberl of Pocahontas; two brothers, Albert Walthers and Gilbert Walthers of Jackson; seven sisters, Hilda Wallman and Meta Hunt of Jackson, Nelda McMurtry of Fenton, Mo., Corine Lashley of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Irene Hurst of St. Louis, Bernice Baker of Villa Ridge, Mo., and Helen Thiel of Jerseyville, Ill.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Cary Schreiner of St. Louis, Cheryl Venable of Lino Lakes, Minn., Chris Schreiner of Florissant, Mo., Andrew Koeberl of Cape Girardeau, Alaina Rolfing of Pocahontas; a great-grandson and two great-stepgrandsons.

Her dear children, Laverne Schreiner and Leonard Koeberl, preceded her in death.

Bertha was a lifelong member of the Pocahontas community. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church at Pocahontas Jan. 23, 1916. In 1943, she became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Pocahontas and was active in the Ladies Aide. She moved to Jackson in February 1999.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund.
