Lacy, Dorothy Madge (nee Whitener)

PATTON, Mo. -- Dorothy Madge "Dot" Lacy, 88, of Patton passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at the Madison Memorial Medical Center/Stockhoff Nursing Home in Fredericktown, Mo., where she had been a resident for the past 10 years.

She was born Oct. 1, 1920, at Bernie, Mo., the middle child of William Elijah and Nancy Schell Whitener. She married George Lacy on May 17, 1940, in St. Louis. He preceded her in death Oct. 15, 2005.

Lacy was a homemaker, farmed with her husband, loved to garden and was a gracious host to many ministers, evangelists, missionaries, family members and friends. She was a lifelong member of Liberty Congregational Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail (the Rev. Jim) Richardson, Van Buren, Ark., Regina (John) Whitlow of Patton; two sisters, Katherine Slinkard of Cape Girardeau, Doris (John) O'Bannon of Stevensville, Mont.; three grandchildren, Shelly (Clarence) Hosier, Amy (Chad) Pettigrew, Brooks (Veronica) Whitlow; four great-grandchildren, Lacy Hosier, Harrison, Madeline and Delaney Pettigrew; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, older brother Wendell "Jack" Whitener, and younger brother William S. "Bill Sam" Whitener.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Patton and after 9 a.m. Monday at the Liberty Congregational Methodist Church near Marquand, Mo.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Revs. Jim Richardson, Jamie Hovis and Kirby Grindstaff officiating.

Burial will follow in the Liberty Church Cemetery.
