Lang, Byron Leroy
Byron Leroy Lang, 87, of Jackson passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he resided since October 2001.
He was born March 16, 1921, in Oak Ridge, son of Oscar and Roxie Kurre Lang. He and Margaret Nitsch were married Dec. 27, 1950, at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. She passed away April 1, 1993.
Byron was a World War II veteran serving from 1945 to 1946 in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.
He was a lifelong cattle farmer, a DeKalb Seed salesman, and operated the former Cape County Shipping Association many years. He was a pioneer of no-till farming and use of anhydrous ammonia. In 1947, he established Byron Lang Trucking and Fertilizer in Old Appleton, Mo. The business, now known as Byron Lang Inc., is at the junction of 61, 25, and 72 highways in Jackson and is operated by his son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Lisa.
Byron was a longtime member of New McKendree United Methodist Church and its Fellowship Sunday school class. He was a former church trustee, active in the men's club and was instrumental in the restoration of Old McKendree Chapel just off Bainbridge Road in Jackson.
Loving survivors include two sons, Roger (Lisa) Lang of Jackson, their children, Trina (Jake) Hindman of Festus, Mo., Scott Lang and Matt Lang of Jackson; Lynn Lang of Gordonville; a sister, Mary Dell Clingingsmith of Old Appleton, and sister-brother-in-law, Glendall and Doris Stout of Jefferson City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation is at 4 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and begins with an American Legion Honor Guard service. Visitation concludes at 8 p.m.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.
Memorials may be made to New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson or the Alzheimers Association.
