Eugene Paul Layton, 83, of Perryville died June 29, 2014 at Perry Oaks Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Perryville, MO.
He was born July 23, 1930 in Perry County, MO, son of Floyd and Rose (Vernon) Layton. He and Joella Esselman were married July 28, 1951. She survives in Perryville, MO.
Mr. Layton was a bricklayer and a member of Local 1 in St. Louis. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
Other survivors include three sons and seven daughters; Kenny (Cheryl) Layton, Susie (Wayne) Brown, James (Janice) Layton and Beverly (Larry) Lambert all of Perryville, JoAnn Fessenden of Hannibal, MO, Pam (Harvey) Holt of Altenburg, Devora "Debbie" (Mike) Sauer, Sandy (Jack) Hamper, Daniel Layton and Carolyn Green all of Perryville, two sisters; Peggy Hudson and Betty Laurentius both of Perryville, twenty-six grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Geraldine Caldwell and one son in law; Gary Fessenden.
A Memorial Service will be held at Young & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 2 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of Service at 2:00 pm.
Memorials are preferred to Humane Society.
