Leimer, Tillman A. "Timmie"
Tillman A. "Timmie" Leimer, 98, of Saxony Village passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at Chateau Girardeau Nursing Home.
He was born April 29, 1916, in Fruitland, to Theodore H. and Louise B. Pfeiffer Leimer.
Tillman was a graduate of the former Pocahontas High School where he enjoyed participating in basketball, baseball, and playing trombone in the former Jolly Boys Band.
He and Vera Lichtenegger were married Oct. 7, 1945, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. They were lifelong members of the church, members of its former YMPS, and Timmie sang in the choir.
The couple farmed about 40 years in Pocahontas. In the 1960s, Timmie earned the Farmer of the Year Award. They moved to Fruitland in the early 1980s, and to Saxony Village in 2000. They had been married 61 years when Vera passed away Nov. 26, 2006.
In addition to farming, Timmie worked at Bowman Milling Co. in Pocahontas; drove a bus route for the Jackson School District and also the high school vocational route and the Lady Indians basketball team. He then drove a van for VIP Industries in Fruitland; and was a volunteer at Saint Francis Medical Center.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Connie (David) Hoffman of St. Louis; twin sons, Ted (Kathy) Leimer and Fred (Anne) Leimer of Pocahontas; five grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Little and daughters Olivia and Sophia, Erica (Dean) Eggerding and children Cole, Chloe and Max, Christy (Cody) Farrow and son Mase, Melissa (Jeremiah) Kasinger, and Austin Leimer; four stepgrandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister, Nelda Ludwig of Pocahontas; two sisters-in-law, Lorene (the late Wilmer) Leimer of Perryville, Missouri, and Dorothy (the late Floyd) Lichtenegger of Jackson; and a brother-in-law, Herbert (Barb) Lichtenegger of Jackson.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Melvin, Norman, Ervin and Wilmer Leimer, Irma Kasten and Alma Leimer (twin of Norman).
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Bruce Ritter officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund.
