Lewis, Marilyn Elaine (nee Long)

Marilyn Elaine (Long) Lewis, 81, of Jackson died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 18, 1931 at Marble Hill, Missouri, the daughter of Beecher and Hester Barks Long. Marilyn married Wayne Lewis in Desloge on August 16, 1953. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1996.

Marilyn graduated from Desloge High School and Flat River Junior College. She attended Southeast Missouri State Teachers College and Webster College. Marilyn taught at Turley School (a one room school) in St. Francis County, Athena in Jefferson County and St. Francis Borgia Elementary in Washington, Mo. After her teaching career, Marilyn was a real estate broker/office manager at Carter Gold Key in Union, MO.

She was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church and Esther Circle in Jackson. Marilyn was a volunteer and member of the Southeast Hospital Auxiliary in Cape Girardeau and President of the Ostomy Support Group.

Survivors include: three daughters, Pamela Lewis of Dexter, Susan Lewis and Mary Ann Lewis of Jackson, a sister-in-law, Wanda Long of Desloge, MO and a brother-in-law, Russell Hulsey of Bland, MO. Marilyn is also survived by her extended family, Wally and Marsha Tierney of Sullivan, MO and Mick and Carrie Maune of Washington, MO, four grandchildren: Katie Tierney of Fenton, MO, Conor Tierney of Sullivan, MO, Collin Maune and Carlee Maune of Washington, MO and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her dog Millie B.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Weldon Long, sister Wanda Long Vaugh and brother Wayne Long.

Friends may call Wednesday, October 24 from 3pm-8pm and Thursday, Oct 25th from 9am to time of service at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. A celebration of her life will be Thursday, October 25th at 1pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating.

Interment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jackson Food Pantry or Southeast Hospital Foundation.
