Limbaugh, Webster S. "Webb", Jr.

Webster S. Limbaugh, Jr. (Webb), 85, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008.

Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, November 26, 2008, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 N.E. Antioch Road, Gladstone. Funeral services to follow at 4 p.m. at the chapel.

Webb was born April 6, 1923, to Webster and Velma Limbaugh in Hurricane, Mo.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; two sisters, Alda Vee Lancaster (Bill) and Virginia Lancaster (Luby); a brother, Dempsey Limbaugh; two daughters, Linda Yorio (Jim) and Vicki Palatas (Mike); four stepdaughters, Lyn Hewlette (Curtis), Laurie Draughon (Don), Debbie Williams (Todd) and Kristen Reel (Brian), as well as five grandchildren, one great granddaughter, 10 step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.

Webb moved with his family in 1933 to Jefferson City, Mo., where he graduated from Jefferson City High School. He worked for Wagner Electric in St. Louis for two years until he was called to serve as a tank commander in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. After the war, he married Velma Sappenfield of Henley, Mo., in 1945. He then went to work for Missouri Power and Light Company in Jefferson City. Ultimately he worked for Capital Supply Company as the sales manager for 20 years and as the sales manager for Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning in Kansas City, Kan., until his retirement in 1994. He married Patricia McCoy-Young in 1984.

In retirement, Webb enjoyed working as a courier for Smith-Kline Beecham, as a shuttle driver for North Kansas City Hospital, and as counter attendant at both Antioch Bowling Center and AMF Northland. He earned an electrical engineering certification from DeVry University and served as president of the advisory board of Linn Technical Institute. He was an active member in the Jefferson City community as the state president of United Commercial Travelers of America, the President of Missourians Against Legalized Gambling, and as Sunday school teacher and deacon at the First Baptist Church and volunteer at the Sheltered Workshop. He was a natural athlete who played semi-professional baseball and refereed basketball. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed bowling, golfing, and following the Jefferson City High School and Missouri University football teams his entire life. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Webb loved and was loved by his family and friends and lived life to the fullest.

Webb lived most of his life in Jefferson City and had been married to Velma Sappenfield of Henley, who survives in Martinez, Ga.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. He worked for Capital Supply Company and Missouri Power and Light. In 1983 he moved to Kansas City and worked for Four Seasons Heating and Air Conditioning until his retirement in 1994. He became a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Webb served his country as a tank commander in World War II.
