Lloyd, James Michael

James Michael Lloyd, 67, of Cape Girardeau, died Tuesday September 10, 2013 at his home.

He was born March 24, 1946 to Charles W., and Helen M. Lloyd (Gerecke) in Cape Girardeau, MO.

He grew up in Malden, MO  and Graduated from Malden High School. He spent his summers in Cape Girardeau, MO on the farm of his Grandparent’s Louis and Frieda Gerecke. He then went on to attend Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau where he graduated with a degree in Business.  He served as a Petty Officer First Class in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War serving on board the USS Columbus. He was also served in the United States Naval Reserve. For more than 20 years he worked as an independent contractor. He then worked for 12 years as Building Superintendent for Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, and retired from there. After retiring he worked from Landmark Hospital as a Greeter for two years. He was an avid Civil War enthusiast and a fan of all things John Wayne. He was an animal lover his whole life and would have taken all the animals home if he could from the local shelters.  However his greatest joy was being a father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his daughter Carrie Denae Clover of Herrin, IL, a brother John W. Lloyd of Eugene, OR and two Grandsons Jacob and Liam both of Herrin, IL.

Celebration of Life  will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Ann Mowery officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society,  St. Jude Children's Research  Hospital  and Humane Society  of Southeast Missouri.
