Loenneke, Walter E.
Walter E. Loennecke, 86, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Aug. 22, 1923, in Jackson, son of Joe and Bertha Aufdenberg Loenneke. He and Sarah "Sally" Hoffman were married April 30, 1955. She passed away Dec. 2, 1990. He and Margie Campbell were married May 7, 1994.
Walter was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. He later became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, where he participated in the Men's Club and the former dart ball league.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, inducted March 2, 1945, and honorably discharged Jan. 2, 1947.
Walter was a warehouse foreman many years at the former Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Jackson. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and was a volunteer at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include his wife, Margie of Jackson; a daughter, Roberta (Dan) Brown of Jackson; a granddaughter, Chelsea (Philip) Wire of Edwardsville, Ill.; a brother, Carl (Elda) Loenneke of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Zelma "Shorty" Loenneke of Sedgewickville, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Nelson Kieninger of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.
Margie's family includes two daughters, Pat Kreitler, husband Brian LeMieux, and daughters, Emma and Charlotte LeMieux, all of Chesterfield, Mich.; Susan (Mike) Abrams and their children, David (Jill) Abrams and Tasha (Brad) Welsh, all of Festus, Mo.; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pat Langston of Cape Girardeau and Vinita Schwab of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elda Kieninger; a brother, Joe Loenneke; and an infant brother, Elmer.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An American Legion service will be held at 7.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Saint Francis Auxiliary.
