Lorberg, Edna (nee Sander)

Edna Lorberg, 98, of Gordonville passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at the Lutheran Home, where she had resided since April 7, 2008.

She was born Sept. 20, 1910, in Gordonville, daughter of Herman W. and Bertha Suedekum Sander. Edna and Walter "W.F." Lorberg were married Nov. 14, 1935. He passed away March 6, 1964.

Edna attended the former Sandy Ridge Elementary School. She was confirmed as a child at the St. James United Church of Christ at Tilsit. In 1935 when she and her husband, W.F. Lorberg, were married, she joined the Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville. Together they lived on the family farm all of their married life. She was a very active member and held various offices and positions within the church; she was a member of the Ladies Aid and served as a former president. She was also a charter member of Gordonville Homemakers Club. Edna truly enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included traveling, gardening and quilting; she was especially fond of traveling and gardening.

Loving survivors include two sons, John (Ellen) Lorberg; Jerry (Barbara) Lorberg of Gordonville; two daughters, Joan (Joe) Battle of Gordonville; Janet (Leonard) Fiedler of Jackson; a brother, Ralph (Jean) Sander of Golden, Colo.; two sisters, Ruth (Harvey) Nischwitz of Gordonville; Blanche Schafer of Fayette, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Sander of Jackson.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Susan (Jay) Skinner, Gwyn (Bill) Wischmeyer Jr., Jeffrey (DeAnn) Lorberg, Sarah (Todd) Schumacker, Julie (Peter) Arcaro, John R. (Lisa Michelle) Battle, David (Michelle) Fiedler and Brian (Shelly) Fiedler; and 11 great-grandchildren, Jared Skinner, Rhiannon Skinner, Caitlin Wischmeyer, Paige Wischmeyer, Leah Lorberg, Tyler Lorberg, Laramie Lorberg, Ansley Battle, Ellary Battle, Aaron Fiedler and Lauren Fiedler.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Sander, and a brother-in-law, Payton Schafer.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiating.

Interment will follow in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery.
