Macke, Joseph Henry

Joseph H. Macke, 44, of Oak Ridge passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in an accident.

He was born Jan. 7, 1969, in Cape Girardeau, to Elmer and LaWanda Fisher Macke. He and Jane Koeberl were married Feb. 27, 1996.

Joe was an upbeat guy who lived life to the fullest. If you had the privilege of meeting him even once, you were his friend. He loved life and was an avid outdoorsman. When time allowed he especially enjoyed working in timber, hunting and fishing.

Many people knew Joe from working on the rivers for Luhr Bros. and Missouri Barge Lines, but the past several years he worked as a bricklayer through Bricklayers Local 1 of Missouri in St. Louis. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Immediate survivors include his wife of 17 years, Jane of Oak Ridge; seven siblings, Pattie (Wayne) Mayberry of Jonesboro, Ill., Pam (David) Morgan of Cape Girardeau, Phyllis Ruesler (fiance Hubert Sharpe) of LaBelle, Mo., Paula (Brad) Thompson of Fruitland, Caroline Hoxworth of Jackson, John Macke of Millersville and Mike (Robin) Macke of Jackson.

Survivors of his wife's family include her brothers, Kenny (Carol) Koeberl of Perryville, Mo., Ralph (the late Charlotte) Koeberl and Bill (Nelda) Koeberl all of Frohna, Mo.; and a brother-in-law, Ed (the late Marjorie) Miesner of Perryville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and LaWanda Macke; and his father and mother-in-law, Waldemar and Irma Koeberl.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to time of service Sunday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Living Hope, c/o Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
