Macke, Thomas Edward

Thomas Edward Macke, 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 10, 1928, in Jackson, son of Wiley and Esther E. Rauh Macke. He and Iola D. Lewis were married June 11, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She passed away Feb. 18, 2003.

Macke was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. He had been an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, its Men's Club and choir.

He also started and taught for many years a breakfast Bible study class. He was a graduate of Concordia University Chicago at River Forest, Ill., and attained a master's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Macke was a teacher and youth director many years at Trinity Lutheran School. He also had a passion for woodworking and carving.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Joyce Macke of Cape Girardeau; a brother, James "Jim" Macke of Perryville, Mo.; two brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Macke; and a sister, Mary Haertling.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, and after 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Saxony Lutheran High School, Trinity Lutheran Grade School, or the National Parkinson Foundation.
