Martens, Leo E.

A funeral will be held Thursday, December 16th, 2004 for 94-year-old Leo E. Martens of Perryville who died Monday, December 13th at the Perry County Nursing Home.

He was born May 7th, 1910 in Perry County, the son of August and Caroline (Hoog) Martens, who both preceded him in death.

He married Olinda Huber on July 25th, 1933. She preceded him in death.

He married Odelia "Deets" DePauw Buerck on May 5th, 1990. She survives in Perryville.

Survivors also include: two daughters and sons in law, Doris and William Keppel of Florissant and Carol and Harold Carter of Lohmann; two sons and daughters in law, William "Bill" and Sheila Martens of Perryville and Richard "Dick" and Carole Martens of Perryville; a stepdaughter, Shirley Fadler of St. Peters; a stepson and his wife, Norbert and Alice Buerck of Brandon; a brother, Joseph Martens of Perryville; a sister, Ida Esselman of Perryville; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and 13 step great grandchildren.

A son, Joseph; two sisters, Sophia Esselman and Augusta Martens; a grandson, Randall Martens; and a great grandson, Shannon Mahnken, also preceded him in death.

He was an agriculture farmer and member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Farm Bureau, Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree), Holy Name Society, American Legion Booster, original member of the Perry County Wildlife Chapter and he was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Visitation will be 4:15-9 p.m. Wednesday, December 15th and 6:30-11 a.m. Thursday, December 16th at the Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.

A Catholic wake will be held at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday and the rosary will be recited Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

A funeral mass for 94-year-old Leo E. Martens of Perryville will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 16th at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Kevin Fausz will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Schools or Southeast Hospice.
