May, Charles Benton "Stubbee"

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Charles Benton "Stubbee" May, 87, of Advance passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at Puxico Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Advance, son of Clarence Emanuel and Sadie Edna Gibbs May. He and Ida Maxine Swindell were married Oct. 28, 1950, at Dexter.

Stubbee graduated from Advance High School and Steinmeyer Business College in Cape Girardeau.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Stubbee was a member of Advance First Baptist Church and a deacon 50 years. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He had been a bookkeeper and sales manager 33 years at Mirly Truck Sales in Advance. He served on the Stoddard County Ambulance Board 19 years, and was a board member of Advance Senior Citizens. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine May; a daughter, Mardell (Norvin) Porter of Herculaneum, Missouri; a sister, Charlotte (Don) Lanpher of Advance; four grandchildren, Travis (Christie), Kyle, Jessica and Jordan Porter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Frances Mauk, Doris Smith, JoAnn Sadler and Blondel Bowers; a cousin raised as a brother, Lloyd Carlton; and a cousin raised as a sister, Bonnie Day.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
